Online gaming put Global Hospitality Management student Chris Heinzmann at the top of his class—and made him a virtual tycoon. This past fall semester, exchange student Christopher Heinzmann from the Netherlands attended USF as part of his 18-month long Global Hospitality Management Program (GHMP).

Why would top tech execs take the risk of leaving Google for a startup that no one had ever heard of? The answer, as discussed in a recent USF School of Management panel at rideshare giant Lyft’s 66,000-squre-foot headquarters in San Francisco’s Mission District, may be startup culture. The panel included Ron Storn, VP of People at Lyft and USF alumnus, Claire Hughes Johnson, COO at Stripe and Michael DeAngelo, Head of People at Pinterest.

Lo strongly believes in utilizing community engagement as a part of his curriculum both inside and outside the classroom. For the past two years Lo has been able to bring organization supervisors and managers into his courses, working as co-educators and sharing their practical experience and expertise.

USF graduate-student team creates annual business-idea event. Contrary to what San Franciscans may think about techies, they are not just here to cause rent increases, but to make a positive impact. That was the goal of this past weekend’s 3rd Annual Tech for Good Startup Weekend in San Francisco, where 10 teams created 10 business ideas in a total of 54-hours.
